During this troubling time in the country in which I live, there has been an upheaval of values and a sharp rise in acts of violence + discrimination… in a matter of only a few days.

People in my nation are afraid.
Afraid of their fellow-man.
Afraid of their newly elected and appointed leaders.
Afraid of their future.

Fear is running rampant in America.

I am not immune to the fear, friends.

I have had moments of sadness + despair about our current situation. I have cried and I have worried along with all the other compassionate people in my country.

But, what I have also done is to turn inward.

I have turned off the news + tuned into my own inner light. I have sought solace from my deep connection to Spirit to guide me through my fears and to return to love.

Over and over and over again.

Sometimes, I have to touch back in dozens of times in a single day just to maintain the peace and to let the love I have for others overcome my fears.

My meditation pillow is a sacred space that I am, more than ever, so glad to have at my disposal.

But, it’s not enough to just raise my own vibration.  I mean, sure, it definitely helps, but I need to consider that there are others who are suffering right now who may not have access to an outlet like mine.

So, I wanted to share another practice that has been keeping me afloat + that I have been dedicating to raising the frequency of my fellow-man.

This practice, my friends, is a powerful one. One that has the ability to affect more than just ourselves. It is the practice of

PRAYER.

So, I am dedicating this post to some of my favorite prayers for peace. You may already know some of them or even use them yourself.

Feel free to change-up any of the pronouns used in these prayers.
Change Lord to Spirit, Universe, Consciousness, whatever you see fit.

My absolute favorite prayer ever written is the Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi often referred to as the Peace Prayer.

There are a few other prayers for peace listed below. Use any that connect with you at any moment when you feel fear creeping back in… it will transform you from the inside out and raise your vibration immediately.

Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, the truth;
Where there is doubt, the faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled, as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Serenity Prayer

– Reinhold Niebuhr

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
forever in the next.
Amen.

Prayer to Come Back to Peace

– Gabby Bernstein, The Universe Has Your Back

“Whenever you notice yourself disconnect from the presence of love, simply say this prayer to come back to peace:

‘I witness that I’m out of alignment with my power.
I choose to see peace instead of this.’

A Buddhist Prayer for Peace

May all beings everywhere plagued with sufferings of body and mind quickly be freed from their illnesses.
May those frightened cease to be afraid, and may those bound be free.
May the powerless find power and may people think of befriending one another.
May those who find themselves in trackless, fearful wildernesses – the children, the aged, the unprotected – be guarded by beneficent celestials, and may they swiftly attain Buddhahood.

Native American Great Spirit Prayer

Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind,
Whose breath gives life to all the world.

Hear me; I need your strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.

Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.

Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.
Help me to remain calm and strong in the face of all that comes towards me.
Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.

Help me seek pure thoughts and act with the intention of helping others.
Help me find compassion without empathy overwhelming me.
I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy – Myself.

Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes.
So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.

Prayer of Loving Kindness

 – Metta Prayer

May all beings be peaceful.
May all beings be happy.
May all beings be safe.
May all beings awaken to
the light of their true nature.
May all beings be free.

The following is not a prayer, but a poem that seems fitting right now. Dear X keeps a copy of it above our kitchen sink + I often read it as I wash dishes.

Desiderata

– Max Ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious
to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter, for always
there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.

And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

There you are loves, some beautiful + peaceful prayers to hold close to your heart.

Keep the peace. Namaste <3

Love and light,
