Heal Your Wounded Feminine Energy

Gretchen Wood Lakshmi • September 1, 2024

So many people and institutions in our world value doing over being, logic over intuition, and light over darkness, many of us carry a wound deep within us—the wound of the feminine. When I speak about "feminine energy," I'm not talking about gender; it's an aspect of your being that exists in everyone.

Feminine energy embodies a more receptive, nurturing, and flowing state compared to the linear, structured, and action-oriented nature of masculine energy. Think of the yin-yang symbol: the masculine energy represents yang—fiery, directional, and illuminating—while the feminine energy embodies yin—soft, mysterious, and expansive.

Words like grace, intuition, compassion, and creativity describe the essence of feminine energy, while the masculine is usually associated with strength, strategy, logic, and reason. Both energies have their importance, but the balance between them is just as important, and that can be disrupted. In modern societies that promote productivity, competition, and the day-to-day grind, many men and women have become disconnected from their innate feminine energy.

Trauma and Society Wound the Feminine

Trauma and abuse often leave a deep scar on our feminine energy. When someone experiences physical, emotional, or psychological abuse, they learn to become more guarded, more "doing" than "being." The feminine thrives in the realms of intuition, feeling, and receiving, and can be suppressed in an attempt to survive.

For many people, living in a masculine-based society that rewards action, achievement, and logic can lead to a disconnection from their natural feminine state. Both men and women internalize this cultural narrative, and it wounds their feminine energy in different ways.

For women, this might look like suppressing their nurturing and intuitive sides to conform to societal expectations of strength and independence or even to be subservient and cater to others needs above their own.

For men, it may mean denying their softer, feeling aspects to align with the traditional view of masculinity. The result? A collective imbalance where both genders are deprived of the wholeness that comes from honoring both their masculine and feminine energies.

Why Healing Feminine Energy is So Important for Everyone

Healing wounded feminine energy is about reclaiming our power to feel, receive, nurture, and simply be. It’s about stepping into the soft yet powerful grace that exists within all of us, regardless of gender. By restoring our connection to feminine energy, we embrace the fullness of who we are—balanced, whole, and capable of moving through the world with more compassion, creativity, and flow.

Healing feminine energy is also a pathway to deeper self-love. When we honor our feminine side, we give ourselves permission to feel emotions fully, nurture ourselves, and move with the natural rhythms of life instead of constantly striving to push forward.

Ways to Heal Wounded Feminine Energy

Healing wounded feminine energy involves practices that nurture, flow, and connect with our inner selves. Here are some ways to begin this journey:

  1. Embrace the Art of Being: The world often glorifies constant doing, but healing feminine energy involves learning to slow down and simply be. Practice mindfulness, meditation, or simply sitting in silence to connect with your inner world. This is a time to feel rather than think, to allow emotions to flow through you without judgment.
  2. Tune Into Your Intuition: Feminine energy is deeply intuitive. Start paying attention to your gut feelings and inner wisdom. When making decisions, take a moment to listen to your body and emotions, rather than solely relying on logic. Trust that your inner guidance has value.
  3. Connect with Nature: Nature is the ultimate embodiment of feminine energy. Spend time outdoors, feeling the earth beneath your feet, the breeze against your skin, and the warmth of the sun. Notice the cycles and flow of the natural world, and let it remind you of the cyclical, ever-changing nature of the feminine within you.
  4. Honor Your Emotions: Allow yourself to feel and express your emotions without judgment. Remember that when we permit ourselves to experience an emotion fully, it takes about 90 seconds for it to move through the body. However, if we suppress it or spiral into thought patterns, it may get trapped in the body, often in areas of tension within the fascia. Acknowledging and expressing your emotions creates space for healing.
  5. Practice Self-Care: Caring for yourself in nurturing ways is a direct way to honor feminine energy. This could be taking a long bath, journaling, or engaging in creative activities. The key is to allow yourself to receive care and kindness from yourself.
  6. Move and Stretch the Body: Since feminine energy is associated with the body and the flow of energy within it, practices like yoga, dance, and gentle stretching can help release trapped emotional energy. Movement allows you to reconnect with your body, clear out “hotspots” where emotions have been stored, and let the energy flow freely.
  7. Create Space for Creativity: Feminine energy thrives in creativity and expression. Whether it's art, music, writing, or cooking, engage in activities that allow you to express your inner world. Let go of perfection and simply create for the joy of the process.

A Collective Healing Journey

The journey to heal wounded feminine energy isn’t just a personal one; it’s a collective healing. When we restore balance within ourselves, we contribute to a more balanced and compassionate world. Whether you identify as more masculine or feminine, we all hold both energies within us, and we can all benefit from the gifts of the feminine—intuition, nurturing, receptivity, and the power of simply being.

By taking steps to reconnect with this energy, we allow ourselves to embrace the fullness of who we are. We heal not just ourselves but also help to shift the collective consciousness toward one that values balance, compassion, and the natural flow of life.
